GTA 5
GTA 5 sells itself as a sunny Los Santos crime tour, yet the moment the story hands you a planning board for the Vangelico jewelry store it turns into a careful heist simulator in which a cheap gunman or a slow driver can cost you a fortune. Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips share the spotlight, and a single press on the character wheel can drop you from a family argument in the Vinewood Hills to a meth lab in Sandy Shores.

The Character Wheel and Three Different Lives
Switching is far more than a camera trick. When you jump to Trevor after hours away, you might find him waking up on a beach in his underwear or chasing someone through Sandy Shores, while Michael could be stuck in therapy with Dr. Friedlander and Franklin might be walking Chop near his aunt’s house in Strawberry. Those little scenes give each man his own rhythm and make the city feel like it keeps moving when you are not watching.
Inside missions the wheel becomes a tactical tool. During the Merryweather Heist or the Paleto Score you hop between a sniper perch, a getaway car and a frontline gunfight, choosing whoever has the best angle at that second.
Players who like directing a scene rather than playing one hero tend to adore this system, since it lets them treat every big mission as a small film with three cameras. No other entry in the series plays quite like this.
Special Abilities That Change Firefights
Each lead has a meter that charges through play. Michael’s ability slows time during gunfights, perfect for lining up headshots from cover. Franklin slows time behind the wheel, which turns tight alleys and oncoming traffic into easy weaving. Trevor’s rage halves incoming damage and boosts his melee, so he can wade into a crowd that would flatten the other two.
A common beginner habit is saving the meter for some perfect moment that never comes. In practice, firing it whenever a chase or shootout gets messy is the smarter play, since it refills steadily.
By the time Merryweather mercenaries start appearing with heavy armor and helicopters, these abilities stop being a luxury and become the main way to clear a room without burning through body armor. Trevor’s rage in particular saves many late shootouts.
Crew Choices on the GTA 5 Planning Board
Every heist begins with Lester Crest pinning photos and blueprints to a board. You pick an approach, such as the smart, quiet route with knockout gas or the loud route with assault rifles, then hire a gunman, a driver and sometimes a hacker. Cheap crew members take a smaller cut, but they are slower, miss shots and can even die mid-job, taking part of the loot with them.
Here is a trick veterans swear by: hire a cheap but talented member early, like the gunman Packie McReary or the driver Karim Denz, and keep using them. Crew skills improve after every successful heist, so they become reliable without the expensive cut.
Prep missions shape the main event too. Stealing a specific vehicle, grabbing gear from a Merryweather dock or scouting the Union Depository all feed directly into how smooth The Big Score feels when the alarm finally rings.
Lester’s Assassinations and the Stock Market
The most famous money trick in the series lives in Lester’s assassination contracts. Before each hit you can invest in a rival company on the LCN or BAWSAQ exchange, then wait for the share price to jump once the target is gone. The Hotel Assassination, the Multi Target job and the Vice target all move specific stocks, and players share timing charts in forums for every one of them.
The key is patience. Most of these contracts can be delayed until after The Big Score, when all three characters have heist money to put into the market.
Money hunters who plan every dollar enjoy this side of the story more than any heist, and it is the reason long-time fans tell newcomers never to rush Lester’s calls. A little patience can fund every property in the game.
Where GTA 5 Players Disagree
The ending choice is the sharpest argument. Option A asks Franklin to kill Trevor, Option B asks him to kill Michael, and Option C, often called Deathwish, keeps the trio together for one last stand. Most fans call Option C the true conclusion, yet a vocal minority argues that the darker choices fit Franklin’s story better.
Tone is the other flashpoint. The satire of Lifeinvader, Vinewood and talk radio lands for many players, while missions like By the Book, with its torture scene, remain uncomfortable even for longtime series fans.
Some also feel the single-player world goes quiet after the credits, with Strangers and Freaks side stories as the main remaining content. Others happily spend dozens of extra hours on golf, triathlons, flight school and the Mount Chiliad mystery mural.
GTA 5 shines when you use every tool it hands you. Rotate between Michael, Franklin and Trevor on the character wheel, build a cheap crew that grows into a great one before The Big Score, park your cash in the right stock ahead of Lester’s next hit, and choose Option C if you want all three of them standing at the end.
